Home Water Softener Systems and their Advantages

The purity of water is hindered by the presence of specific elements namely, calcium, magnesium and other minerals. Groundwater inherits these metals by absorbing them from surrounding soil and rock. The procedure of removal of these impurities from what is commonly known as hard water, is known as water softening. The technique is normally conducted by methods of lime softening or ion-exchange resins also known as reverse osmosis water filters.

Hard water causes two significant problems. Firstly, the calcium and magnesium residue from hard water precipitates which forms a scale like material, which blocks the water pipes. And second of all, hard water may reduce the soap's ability to lather, whether in the shower or sink and also reacts to soap forming a sticky substance.

Reverse Osmosis is the whole house water purification of water by removal of ions and/or large molecules, a technique used vastly for purifying rain water, boiler water at power plants, brackish groundwater and deionized water.
